Sophie Rieu

Sopie Rieu trained as a fashion designer at the Grafton Academy, Dublin and worked on commission ofr three years before deciding to launch Unicorn, a couture-with-a-conscience label in 2005. With a strong environmental and social background (She worked for Irish Green MEP Patricia McKenna as a Press Officer and was a freelance environmental and soical journalist), she decided to work only with fabrics that have a minimal impact on the environment and on teh workers producing them such as organic cotton, organic linen, organic wool, hemp, untreated silk and noil silk.

Her customers say her clothes are "unusual, different" , "very detailed and feminine" , that they "feel and look wonderful on". She loves playing with colours, draping, textures and mixes fabrics of different weights and colours. She loves to surprise with unexpected details that are functional or add fantasy and playfulness to her garments. She hand-finishes garments and addorns them with gorgeous natural buttons made from shell, mother of pearl, wood, bone, resin and with handcrafted hair pins to fasten tops or jackets or gather fabrics in a askirt or dress. www.unicorndesign.net
